William Morris didn't often comment on fashion...
"Do not allow yourselves to be upholstered like armchairs"  he is quoted as saying in one 1880 lecture.

Morris believed in what he called artistic dress - clothes for men and women should be loose fitting and comfortable, the antithesis of the stuffy and deeply gendered fashion norms of the time. For this project, we reimagined the concept of artistic dress for the creatives of today.

Unisex. Comfortable. Liveable. A Biodegradable, non toxic tracksuit made from organic hemp-cotton jersey, natural madder dye and a specially developed alginate acid-wash screen printing emulsion. Say goodbye to microfibres and hello to the future!

The exhibition William Morris: Wallpaper Man, presented by Story Box Collective, started Thursday 22nd October 2020 at The William Morris Society,  Kelmscott House, Hammersmith.
